# Method

- Lists: the 2026 Inc 5000 (4,969 companies with a website; 4,886 homepages loaded) and Y Combinator's company directory (5,386 homepages loaded).
- Crawl: one homepage per company, rendered in a headless browser (ScrapingBee) in September 2026, with a plain fetch used for the few domains the renderer could not load. The rendered HTML, script URLs and headers are matched against Installmap's fingerprint table (scrapers/fingerprints.py).
- Categories: Website = a CMS or site builder, or Shopify, BigCommerce or Adobe Commerce. CRM = Installmap's CRM and marketing automation category. Analytics (non-Google) = the analytics category without Google Analytics 4, Universal Analytics and Google Tag Manager. The other categories are Installmap's own.
- Default: the tool detected on the most homepages in a category within a segment. The share is out of all loaded homepages in the segment, including those with no tool in the category.
- Size: Inc's employee field gives the floor of the band each company reported (1, 11, 51, 201, 501, 1001, 5001). We read 51 as 51-200 and 201 as 201-500 and combined the three bands above 500. YC team size is a head count from YC's directory.
- Limits: a homepage shows the tools a company loads on its public site. A CRM used only inside the company (Salesforce without web forms, for example) leaves no trace there. Chat, forms and consent tools that load only on inner pages are missed.
- HubSpot Chat counts only the chat widget (js.usemessages.com or the chat iframe), not HubSpot's cookie banner script (js.hs-banner.com).
