Frequently asked questions
What is technographic data?
Data about which software and services a company's website runs, gathered by reading the site itself rather than by asking the company. See the glossary for the full term list. Glossary.
How does detection work?
A crawler fetches each company's homepage and checks it against a list of known fingerprints: script tags, generator meta tags, response headers, form endpoints and payment iframe hosts. A match records one install. Method.
What is the sample and how much of it is covered?
30,000 company domains were drawn from Crunchbase company records, companies with 11 to 1,000 employees in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. 8,130 of them were fetched and counted. The method page shows the funnel with a count at every step. See the funnel.
How often is the data updated?
The current crawl ran from 2026-09-03 to 2026-09-03. Tool pages show a first-counted date and will show a month-on-month change once a second crawl exists.
How do I cite Installmap?
Each stats and tool page carries a Cite this block with the finding as a plain sentence, the page URL and the citation line, ready to copy.
How accurate is the detection, and what about false positives?
A match records that the site loads a tool's code. It does not confirm the company is a paying customer. Fingerprints shared between similar tools are a known source of error.
Why are some tools missing?
A tool must leave a fingerprint a public homepage crawl can read. Software that runs behind a login or inside a data warehouse, such as a CRM back office or a data platform, is out of scope for that reason. See Method for the named examples. Method.
What are the industry and size cuts?
Every count can be split by industry, employee size band and country. A segment's share is published only once its base reaches 20 crawled domains; below that the page reads n/a rather than a noisy percentage.
Are company-level lists for sale?
No. The published counts are free to read and free to cite. Company-level lists are not available yet. Pricing.
